What is Resist?

We all wish we could disconnect from time to time. But often, we find that incredibly hard to do. Despite our best efforts, we often fail. Resist is the app that gives you the incentive to ditch your phone and be more present. Building on research in psychology and neuroscience, we’ve pinned down the ultimate method to help you escape the clutches of phone addiction – a penalty from your own pocket.

But, we don’t want to add to the world’s woes. While that money’s lost from your hands, it’s sent directly to charity to set about doing good. So don’t fret – for even when you’re off wallowing in self-castigation, someone, somewhere, will be benefitting.

Which Charities?

We don't take any commission and have made Resist to simply try and help charities raise more in donations, while helping people stay off of their phones. Our charities are:

Mind: A mental health charity in the UK that raises awareness on mental health issues and helps provide information and advice to people with mental health problems.

World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF): An international organisation with the aim to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.

Save The Children: An international charity that promotes children’s rights, provides relief and helps support children in developing countries, through better education, health care, and economic opportunities.

The British Red Cross: The British Red Cross provides humanitarian aid to people in crisis, both in the UK and overseas.

We picked these charities because they mean a great deal to us. If you have a charity that you think would be a great addition to Resist, get in touch! We welcome any charity suggestions.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would I need an app to stay off of my phone?

Studies have shown that a commitment device or incentive to stay off of your phone can be really effective and that is why we decided to create Resist. We have no self-discipline and thought it was time to make something that gave us some.

Are there hidden fees in the donation?

No. We have created this app to help people stay off their phones and to raise money for some of our favorite charities. We transfer 100% to those charities.

Will my friends hate me if I don’t reply to their messages?

Yes, yes they will. But at least you will be one step closer to that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. As Donald Trump wisely tweeted "who needs friends when you have money".

Do I have to pay?

It’s free to download and if you can stay off of your phone for the selected time period, it will cost you nothing (and you will have got your work done or been more sociable – win-win, eh?). However, if you do go on your phone during your time-out period, it will cost you the donation that you pre-selected.

How does it work?

We help you set the disincentive to stay off of your phone and be present. All you have to do is follow our steps and then leave your phone to countdown – don’t text, don’t scroll through Facebook and don’t Snapchat, or you will lose your donation amount.

How is my money sent to charity?

If you end up using your phone we use Stripe to collect your penalties weekly.
